Pau Donés, born in Aragon in 1966 and raised in Barcelona, was introduced to music at an early age. After gaining experience in a variety of bands, it wasn’t until his thirties that he was able to devote his undivided attention to music. His definitive project, Jarabe de Palo, released their first album in 1996 and the overwhelming success of the hit single La Flaca came, without warning, one year later. The track that sold millions on a worldwide scale became a summer hit in 1997 and Pau, although grateful, focussed his energies on proving that this success would not be short-lived.

The group’s second album, Depende (99), enjoyed similar success to the former release. The music, steeped in ironic lyricism with a marked genius, connected not only with Spanish-speaking listeners but also with Italian audiences. The group sold nearly half a million albums in less than one month. The most conceptual album De vuelta y vuelta (01) was as popular in Latin America as it was in France and Italy. In 2002, Pau locked himself away in a studio in Formentera to give shape to his fourth album, Bonito (03), a return to positivity with collaborative efforts from Mártires del Compás, the singer-songwriter Elena Andujar and his Italian friend Jovanotti. In 2004, 1 m2 was released, a defining album with collaborations by friends such as Jorge Drexler, Lucrecia and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders).

Jarabe de Palo has enjoyed successful album sales, awards (Premios de la MĂşsica, Ondas...), hugely acclaimed video-clips, (at least) one hymn that will go down in the history of Spanish music, nominations for Grammys, tracks in Italian and English and collaborations with La Vieja Trova Santiaguera, Antonio Vega, Ketama, Vico C and the queen Celia Cruz (on the soundtrack El Milagro de P. Tinto). Pau has paid homage to Peret with one of his albums, composed songs for Ricky Martin and featured in a video clip with the American star Alanis Morissette.

In April 2007, Jarabe de Palo released “ADELANTANDO”, the group’s sixth album produced by Pau Donés himself and featuring artistic collaborations with La Mari de Chambao, Carlos Tarque de M Clan, Nicolo Fabi and La Shica.

This month Jarabe de Palo will launch their new album live when the group does a mini tour round the main cities in Spain, followed by seventeen concerts across Europe, including Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Holland. This comes after an extensive tour in summer 2007, demonstrating, once more, that Jarabe de Palo is one of the most successful international bands on the Spanish music scene.

JARABE DE PALO is currently on tour with the show "RECICLANDO TOUR”, designed exclusively for theatres and auditoriums. Top television presenter Andreu Buenafuente hosts the show, which consists of a selection of the group’s greatest hits set to special scenery and costumes. The band will combine this tour with the GIRA ADELANTANDO, until the end of the summer 2008.
